What is VTE?

Blood clots, usually in the legs or lung are collectively known as Venous Thromboembolism (VTE). In Europe, VTE is responsible for more deaths than AIDS, breast cancer, prostate cancer and motor vehicle accidents combined.

Our Goals

To embed VTE risk assessment into daily practice within the Irish health service in an accountable and measurable way

To improve patient awareness by informing patients of their right to a risk assessment and increasing the awareness of signs and symptoms.

Who are we?

We are a newly launched National Clinical VTE Working Group of motivated health care professionals focussing on VTE prevention and treatment in Ireland.
